Help find missing child

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is asking for assistance in locating Laurel DeMattio-Lane, who has been missing for more than a year. She went missing from her home in Ormond Beach, Florida, on June 17, 2016.  The now 18-year-old is believed to be in New York City or surrounding areas in New Jersey. She is described as 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Book on Franklins to be discussed

Proprietary House in Perth Amboy will present “An Evening with Daniel Mark Epstein,” at 7 p.m. June 30. Epstein’s new book, “The Loyal Son, the War in Ben Franklin’s House,” examines the complex relationship between Ben Franklin and his son, William, New Jersey’s last royal governor. Admission is free, but attendees are asked to register in advance to ensure seating. Light refreshments will be served. Following his readings and discussion, Epstein will meet sign copies of “The Loyal Son,” which will be available for purchase. Proceeds of the evening’s book sales will go toward restoration of Proprietary House and operation of its museum. The museum is at 149 Kearny Ave., Perth Amboy. Archaeology camp in Bedminster

A weeklong  archaeology camp for students in grades 3-7 returns at Bedminster’s historic Jacobus Vanderveer House from July 24 to 28. The camp, held daily from 1 to 5 p.m., is presented by the nonprofit Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House in partnership with the Township of Bedminster Recreation Department. Children will work alongside professional archaeologists from Hunter Research, a firm that has conducted numerous archaeological investigations throughout the state, including the Jacobus Vanderveer House site and the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment. The camp will meet at the Jacobus Vanderveer House and Museum, located at 3055 River Road, in side Bedminster’s River Road Park. Transportation to Archaeology Camp will be provided daily from Camp Bedminster for Camp Bedminster registrants only. The fee for the camp is $185. The Boss and the Bible

Rutgers University-New Brunswick faculty member Azzan Yadin-Israel will speak about his book, "The Grace of God and the Grace of Man: The Theologies of Bruce Springsteen," from 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 29 at Alexander Library, 169 College Ave., New Brunswick. The event is free and open to the public. Following the presentation, Yadin-Israel will take questions and sign copies of the book. The Rutgers Office of Summer & Winter Sessions will sponsor a drawing for 10 free copies, and additional books will be available for purchase courtesy of the Rutgers Barnes & Noble. Free parking (for non-university guests only) is available in Rutgers Lots 26, 30, or the College Ave Parking Deck.

Raritan Township police blotter

On June 9, Michael R. Parker, 29, of Browns Mills was charged him with possession of a hypodermic syringe following a motor vehicle stop on Raritan Avenue. On June 14, Santana M. Bellick, 30, with a last known address in Milford, was charged with criminal trespass. On June 14, Jason D. Codrington, 24, of North Brunswick, was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia (marijuana grinder and scale).

CEO retirement, appointment

Enable Inc. announced Sharon J.B. Copeland will retire as chief executive officer July 10 after leading the organization for 15 years. The Board of Directors has named Lisa A. Registration open for County Caper

The naturalists at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, are offering two County Caper events. An adult only (age 15 and older) adventure called The County Caper Accelerated! will be on Saturday, Aug. 19. The one-day Family County Caper will be on Sunday, Aug. 20. Fee is $20. Nomination deadline nears

Gabi Grunstein, county executive director for USDA’s Farm Service Agency for Monmouth, Mercer and Middlesex counties, announced farmer and rancher candidate nominations began June 15 for local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees.  The nomination period continues through Aug. 1. To be eligible, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate. $560K in federal funding announced

U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker recently announced the awarding of a combined $556,292 in federal Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) funding to improve safety and operations in local volunteer and professional fire departments across New Jersey. The AFG program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Course part of 'Modern Dream 18'

Somerset County Park Commission Neshanic Valley Golf Course, 2301 South Branch Road in Neshanic Station, was included in the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) “Modern Dream 18” on Tuesday, June 20. The Dream 18 is a selection of 18 holes at different courses constructed since since 1982, the initial year of compiling the Dream 18 by the MGA. The 18 holes chosen for the Dream 18 form a par-72, 7,624-yard challenge selected from courses in the metropolitan area. Hole No. 14 is Neshanic Valley Golf Course Meadow No. 9, a par-5, 577-yard layout played from the championship tees. Visit www.somersetcountyparks.org.
