He has assumed the Zulu name Dabulamafu, which means to break through the clouds or to bring clarity.

Biography:
Gary graduated in 1986 with an MBA from the University of Western Ontario (London, Canada). He joined the foreign service and worked in the Office of Protocol with responsibility for the organization of State Visits to Canada. In November of 1990, he was seconded to the office of Nelson Mandela at the African National Congress in Johannesburg. As a personal aide, Gary’s role soon took on a marked security profile. From 1994 - 2008, Gary worked as a private security consultant in Africa, the Middle East and South America. He specialized in anti-kidnapping strategies for families with children. In 2004, he moved permanently to Seville, Spain and began working as a radio journalist with Onda Cero Radio on a popular news magazine hosted by Carlos Herrera. He remained with the program for twelve years.
In 2022, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastasized prostate cancer. The prognosis was grim yet he continues to thrive. “I don’t have time to die,” he affirms. After a break of more than three decades, Gary returned to South Africa in 2024 to continue his training as a Zulu traditional healer, which he had begun in 1991 at Mandela’s urging. He graduated as a Sangoma in December of 2024. His mission is to communicate on behalf of the Ancestors.
