Monday is deadline to file your taxes, some Mainers given extended filing date

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Mark your calendar! Most Americans have until Monday, April15 to file their 20-23 taxes, including residents of one Maine county.

However, for most of the state, the deadline has been pushed back by several months.

While most people have until April 15, if you live in Maine or Massachusetts - the I-R-S is giving you until April 17th due to holidays there - but there are some exceptions.

The agency is extending the deadline to those who are affected by the October 7th Israeli terrorist attacks.

If you live or work in a federally declared disaster areas, you’ll get more time as well.

Maine and the IRS have extended the state filing deadline for FEMA-identified counties impacted by January storms with the exception of those filing in Aroostook County. They have until April 17th.

If you are in the following counties, including Androscoggin, Penobscot, Piscataquis-you have until June 17th.

And for residents in the rest of the counties including Hancock, Waldo, and Washington, you have until July 15th.

There is a five-percent penalty for each month you’re late with your filing.

And if you file an extension by April 15th, you will have until October 15th to file your taxes.
