Armenia’s emergency situations ministry, USAID mull co-op opportunities with FEMA and NASA

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. On the sidelines of the Global Platform in Mexico, Armenia’s minister of emergency situations Davit Tonoyan held a meeting with Fabrizio Curcio, head of Italy’s Civil Protection Department.  Mr. Curco was leading the Italian delegation in Mexico.

The meeting focused on opportunities of enhancing cooperation in civil protection.

The sides namely reached an agreement on revising the acting memorandum of understanding between Armenia and Italy, carry out joint works in the DRR regional platform, as well launch works on boosting cooperation between the national red cross organizations of the two countries.

Tonoyan also met with representatives of USAID.

The sides discussed possible directions for boosting cooperation, as well as prospects of implementing new initiatives with Kansas National Guard, on the sidelines of regional cooperation.

The parties outlined opportunities of establishing partnership with Federal Emergency Management Agency of the US – FEMA – and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration – NASA.

An agreement was also reached on enhancing cooperation with the regional USAID office in South Caucasus.

In the end of the global platform, the Armenian delegation took part in the ministerial round-table event, where Tonoyan issued a statement.
